> Learn how to import and sync your Apple Books highlights with Screvi

To import your Apple Books highlights, you have two options: use our desktop app (Mac only) or email your highlights directly from your iPhone or iPad.

## Desktop App Method

### Setup Steps

1. **Get Your API Key**
   - Go to [https://app.screvi.com/settings/api](https://app.screvi.com/settings/api)
   - Generate a new API key if you haven't already
   - Copy the API key (you'll need it later)

2. **Install Screvi Desktop**
   - [Download the Screvi desktop application](https://screvi.com/desktop-app)
   - Install the application on your Mac
   - Launch the application

3. **Use the App**
   - When prompted, paste your API key
   - Click on "Apple Books" in the sidebar
   - Click "Allow Access" when prompted to give Screvi access to your Apple Books library
   - Click on "Sync Now" to import your highlights

## Email Export Method

If you don't have a Mac or prefer not to install the desktop app, you can email your highlights directly from the Apple Books app on your iPhone or iPad.

### Setup Steps

1. **Open your book in Apple Books**
   - Launch the Apple Books app on your iPhone or iPad
   - Open the book containing the highlights you want to export

2. **Access your highlights**
   - Tap the actions menu in the bottom right corner
   - Select "Bookmarks & Highlights"
   - Switch to the "Highlights" tab

3. **Select and share your highlights**
   - Tap "Select" in the top left corner
   - Choose the highlights you'd like to send to Screvi
   - Tap the Share icon
   - Select your email app

4. **Send to Screvi**
   - Send the email to: **new@highlights.screvi.com**
   - Your highlights will be automatically imported into your Screvi account

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How often do highlights sync?
- **Desktop App**: The sync process needs to be initiated manually through the desktop app. There is no automatic sync like in the Chrome extension.
- **Email Export**: You need to manually email highlights each time you want to import them.

### Is it safe to give Screvi access to my Apple Books?
Yes, Screvi only requests read-only access to your highlights and book metadata. We cannot modify your library or access any other parts of your system.
