Does the desktop app work on Windows or Linux?

The desktop app is macOS only, since Apple Books highlights are stored in a local macOS database. If you don't have a Mac, you can use the email forwarding method: share your highlights from Apple Books via email, then forward to your Screvi email address.

Does it sync automatically?

Yes. Once you set up the desktop app with your API key, it reads your Apple Books database and syncs new highlights automatically.

Are my highlights uploaded from my device?

The desktop app reads the local Apple Books database on your Mac and sends only the extracted highlight text and metadata to Screvi. The database itself stays on your machine.

Can I import from iPhone or iPad directly?

Not directly. Apple Books highlights sync across Apple devices via iCloud, so any highlights on your iPhone/iPad will appear on your Mac and get picked up by the desktop app. Alternatively, use the email forward method from any device.
