Where is the KoboReader.sqlite file?

Connect your Kobo via USB. Open the drive. The file is at [Kobo Drive]/.kobo/KoboReader.sqlite. The .kobo folder is hidden by default. On macOS, press Cmd+Shift+. to show hidden files. On Windows, go to View > Show > Hidden items.

Is the file uploaded to a server?

No. The SQLite file is parsed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to any server. Only the extracted highlights are sent to Screvi when you click Import.

Can I import from Kobo's cloud?

Currently, Screvi imports from the physical device's SQLite file. Kobo doesn't offer a web-based highlight notebook like Amazon does, so the USB method is the most reliable approach.

Will re-importing create duplicates?

Screvi deduplicates based on highlight content and source, so re-importing the same file won't create duplicates.

Connect your Kobo

Plug your Kobo e-reader into your computer via USB. It appears as an external drive.

Step 2

Find the database file

Navigate to the hidden .kobo folder on the Kobo drive. Copy the KoboReader.sqlite file. (Show hidden files: Cmd+Shift+. on macOS, View > Hidden items on Windows.)
