Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Screvi: pricing, features, data, and more

Getting Started

What is Screvi?

Screvi is a book highlights manager and digital commonplace book. It collects, organizes, and resurfaces your reading highlights from Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, PDFs, web articles, Twitter/X, YouTube, and physical books. It helps you actually remember and use what you've read through spaced repetition review, AI-powered search, and a highlights feed.

How much does Screvi cost?

Screvi offers a 7-day free trial (no credit card required) followed by three plans:

  • Monthly: $4.99/month
  • Yearly: $49.99/year
  • Lifetime: $199 one-time payment

All plans include every feature. Prices may vary by region.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your data remains in your account. You can still log in and view your highlights, but active features like review, email digests, and AI features require an active subscription.

Is there a limit on highlights?

No. There is no limit on the number of highlights, sources, or articles in your account.

Sources and Importing

Which platforms does Screvi support?

Screvi supports importing from:

  • Amazon Kindle (7 regional stores via extension, mobile app, My Clippings file, or email)
  • Kobo e-readers (via SQLite database file)
  • Apple Books (via macOS desktop app or email)
  • PDFs (direct annotation extraction)
  • Goodreads (book library import + popular highlights)
  • Readwise (CSV or API sync, for users switching from Readwise)
  • Twitter/X (bookmarks via extension)
  • Web articles (via extension or mobile share sheet)
  • YouTube (video transcripts via extension)
  • Markdown files
  • Manual bulk input
  • AI-powered intelligent parsing (any unstructured text)

Can I use Screvi without a Kindle?

Yes. Screvi supports many sources beyond Kindle: Kobo, Apple Books, PDFs, physical books (via camera scanning), web articles, newsletters, Twitter, YouTube, manual input, and more.

Can I import from multiple Kindle accounts?

Yes. Each import adds to your existing library. Screvi deduplicates highlights, so reimporting the same highlights won't create duplicates.

Does Screvi work with Kindle Unlimited / borrowed books?

Yes. Any book you've highlighted in Kindle can be imported, regardless of how you acquired it.

Can I switch from Readwise?

Yes. Screvi has a dedicated Readwise import that preserves all your highlights and tags. You can import via CSV export or direct API sync.

Features

Does Screvi support languages other than English?

Yes. Screvi supports highlights in any language. The AI features (search, cleanup, parsing) work best with English but support most widely-spoken languages. The Kindle import supports 7 Amazon regional stores (US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil).

How does the spaced repetition algorithm work?

Screvi uses a modified SM-2 algorithm, the same scientific method used by Anki flashcards. Each highlight has an "ease factor" that determines review frequency. When you review a highlight and indicate how well you remembered it, the algorithm adjusts the next interval. Highlights you know well are shown less often; those you're less familiar with appear more frequently.

What is semantic search?

Semantic search uses AI to understand the meaning of your query, not just keywords. You can ask questions like "what did I read about building good habits?" and get relevant results even if those exact words don't appear in your highlights.

Is there an Android app?

Yes. Screvi is available on both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).

Data and Privacy

Is my data private?

Yes. Your highlights are private to your account. The only way others can see your content is if you explicitly share it (article sharing or highlight image sharing).

How does the Kobo import handle my data?

The Kobo import parses the SQLite file entirely in your browser. The file is never uploaded to Screvi's servers. Only the extracted highlights are sent.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. From Settings > Danger Zone, you can:

  • Reset Data: Delete all highlights, sources, and articles while keeping your account
  • Delete Account: Permanently delete your account and all data (also cancels your subscription)

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to Integrations > Export to download all your highlights as a ZIP file containing HTML (for Apple Notes) or Markdown files, organized by source. You can also use the Public API to access your data programmatically.

Troubleshooting

My Kindle highlights aren't importing

  • Make sure you're logged in to Amazon at read.amazon.com/notebook in the same browser with the extension
  • If you use a non-US Amazon store, make sure you're on the correct regional URL
  • Let the import finish. It scrolls through your entire library and can take a few minutes.
  • Try refreshing the page and clicking "Import Highlights" again

The extension shows "Not connected"

Visit app.screvi.com/login and log in. The extension connects automatically. If it still doesn't work, try removing and reinstalling the extension.

Email digests aren't arriving

  • Check your spam/junk folder
  • Make sure digests are enabled in Preferences with correct time and timezone
  • You need at least 3 sources and 20 highlights for the review system to work

How do I contact support?

Use the in-app feedback form, or email support@screvi.com. Pedro (the founder) personally responds to support requests.

Can I request new features?

Yes! Visit the public feature request board at screvi.featurebase.app to suggest features and vote on what gets built next.
