Browser Extension

Set up the Screvi extension for Chrome and Firefox: save articles in one click, highlight any web page, import Kindle highlights and X bookmarks, and save YouTube videos with transcripts.

What the Extension Does

  • Save any page as an article with one click
  • Highlight text on any website with a right-click
  • Import Kindle highlights from Amazon's notebook page, with optional daily background sync
  • Import X bookmarks in bulk
  • Save YouTube videos with their transcript

The extension needs an active Screvi subscription or trial to save.

Install

Connect Your Account

  1. Install the extension.
  2. Open app.screvi.com and log in.
  3. That's it. The web app hands the extension a private key the first time you load it while logged in.

Click the extension icon to check: it shows your email and whether your subscription is active.

Save an Article

Click the Screvi icon on any page. A small toast confirms the save and lets you add tags right there.

If Screvi's server could only read a small part of the page, the toast says so and offers Save from this tab. That captures the page as your browser sees it, which is the fix for paywalled articles you have access to, sites that block bots, and pages that need JavaScript to render.

Highlight Text

  1. Select text on any page.
  2. Right-click and choose Save to Screvi.

The passage gets a soft yellow highlight on the page and is saved to your library, linked to the article. If the article was not saved yet, Screvi saves it for you. Highlights stay visible when you come back to the page, and clicking one lets you add a note or remove it. Links inside the selection are kept.

Import Kindle Highlights

  1. Click the Screvi icon and choose Kindle Highlights, or go straight to read.amazon.com/notebook. Log in to Amazon if asked.
  2. A Screvi panel appears on the page. Click Import Highlights.
  3. Keep the tab open until it finishes. The first import of a large library takes a few minutes; later imports only fetch new highlights.

Screvi never sees your Amazon password. The extension reads the notebook page you are already logged in to.

Background sync: turn on daily sync from the Chrome Extension page in the Screvi web app under Integrations. The extension then checks Amazon about once a day in the background.

Regions: the panel works on all 13 Kindle notebook sites, including amazon.com, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .es, .it, .com.br, .ca, .com.au, .co.jp, .in, .com.mx, and .nl. Highlights from books bought in another region only appear on that region's notebook, so run the import on each site you buy from. See the full Kindle guide.

Import X Bookmarks

  1. Go to x.com/i/bookmarks while logged in to X.
  2. Click Start Import in the Screvi overlay.
  3. Bookmarks are imported as highlights, grouped by author.

Save YouTube Videos

On any YouTube video page, an Open in Screvi button appears next to the Like and Share buttons. Click it and Screvi saves the video with its full transcript and opens it in your library, where you can highlight the transcript with timestamps. See YouTube Videos.

Troubleshooting

The popup says "Not connected". Open app.screvi.com in the same browser and log in. The extension reconnects on the next page load. Still stuck? Disable and re-enable the extension, or reinstall it and log in again.

Saving fails with "subscription required". The extension needs an active plan or trial. Check your plan in Settings.

The Kindle panel does not appear. Make sure you are on the /notebook page of your region's Kindle site, then reload. On Firefox, some regional sites are not yet supported, so use Chrome for those.

The extension icon does nothing on some sites. A few sites block extensions from running. Save the URL from the web app instead: Articles > Add article.
