Screvi provides a simple way to sync your Apple Books highlights using our desktop application.

## Desktop App Method

### Setup Steps

1. **Get Your API Key**
   - Go to [https://app.screvi.com/settings/api](https://app.screvi.com/settings/api)
   - Generate a new API key if you haven't already
   - Copy the API key (you'll need it later)

2. **Install Screvi Desktop**
   - [Download the Screvi desktop application](https://screvi.com/desktop-app)
   - Install the application on your Mac
   - Launch the application

3. **Use the App**
   - When prompted, paste your API key
   - Click on "Apple Books" in the sidebar
   - Click "Allow Access" when prompted to give Screvi access to your Apple Books library
   - Click on "Sync Now" to import your highlights

### How often do highlights sync?
The sync process needs to be initiated manually through the desktop app. There is no automatic sync like in the Chrome extension.


### Is it safe to give Screvi access to my Apple Books?
Yes, Screvi only requests read-only access to your highlights and book metadata. We cannot modify your library or access any other parts of your system.

How to Sync Your Apple Books Highlights


Screvi offers three methods to sync your Kindle highlights. Choose the one that best fits your needs:

## Option 1: Chrome Extension (Recommended)

This is the most convenient method as it provides automatic background syncing.

### Benefits
- Automatic daily background sync (when browser is running)
- Real-time sync of new highlights
- No manual file handling required

### Setup Steps
1. Install the [Screvi Chrome Extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/screvi-kindle-and-x-highl/ndlpohihdhnmgdnbmlgpnijmdddefooj) from the Chrome Web Store
3. Open the extension (by clicking on the extension icon in the top right corner of your browser), and click on the "Sync Kindle Highlights" button.
4. Click on Import Your Highlights and your highlights will be imported.
5. Enable Background Sync if you want to sync your highlights daily.

## Option 2: Mobile App

Use the Android or iOS app to sync your highlights directly from your mobile device.

- Go to Settings > Integrations > Kindle
- Login to your Amazon account
- Wait for the sync to complete

- No automatic background sync
- Manual refresh required for new highlights

## Option 3: Manual Upload (MyClippings.txt)

For Kindle e-reader users who prefer direct file transfer and want to sync highlights from personal documents, PDFs, and books from other sources.

### Setup Steps
1. Connect your Kindle to your computer via USB
2. Navigate to the Kindle's documents folder
3. Locate the "MyClippings.txt" file
4. Upload to Screvi through the web dashboard:
   - Go to [https://app.screvi.com/integrations/kindle-import](https://app.screvi.com/integrations/kindle-import)
   - Select "Upload MyClippings.txt"
   - Choose your file and click Upload

- This method requires manual upload each time you want to sync new highlights
- Recommended for users who prefer complete control over their sync process

### Is it safe to login with my Amazon account?
Yes, it's completely safe. Screvi only requests access to your Kindle books and highlights data. We cannot access any other Amazon account information, make purchases, or modify your account in any way

### Can I import highlights from books not purchased through Amazon?
Yes, but **only through the manual MyClippings.txt upload method** (Option 3). This includes personal documents, PDFs, and books from other sources that you've added to your Kindle.

Unfortunately, Amazon does not upload personal document highlights to the Kindle cloud.

### How often do highlights sync?
- Chrome Extension: Automatically syncs daily and after enabling manual sync.
- Mobile App: Manual sync when you tap "Sync Now"
- Manual Upload: Only when you manually upload a new MyClippings.txt file

### What happens if I highlight the same text multiple times?
Screvi automatically detects and merges duplicate highlights, keeping your library clean and organized.

### Can I sync highlights from multiple Kindle devices?
Yes. Just link a different Amazon account to Screvi or upload another MyClippings.txt file.

### What if some of my highlights don't appear?
This usually happens when:
- The book is a personal document (use MyClippings.txt upload)
- Your kindle highlights aren't synced to the cloud yet. Make sure you have an internet connection in your Kindle.

How to Sync Your Kindle Highlights

Unfortunately, Kobo does not provide an API to retrieve highlights, so the only way is to connect your Kobo to your computer and use the screvi desktop app to access your highlights.

The advantage of this, is that you can sync highlights from any book, even if they were not purchased from the official Kobo store.

How to Sync Your Kobo Highlights


Screvi uses a Chrome extension to sync your X (formerly Twitter) bookmarks. Due to X's API limitations and costs, we've developed a secure direct sync method through our browser extension which is much more stable and efficient than relying on the official X API.

### Setup Steps

### Is it safe to use the Chrome extension?
Yes, it's completely safe. The Screvi extension only has access to your X bookmarks page. Screvi cannot access any other X account information, post on your behalf, or modify your account in any way.

### How often do bookmarks sync?
- Automatically syncs daily when background sync is enabled (Beta)
- Manually sync anytime by clicking "Sync Now" in the extension


### Can I sync bookmarks from multiple X accounts?
Yes. You can switch between X accounts in your browser and sync bookmarks from each account separately.
